Portugal has a very extensive and developed system of transport and infrastructure including public transport, taxis, trains and airport. Though, the country has fewer routes of rail and buses to connect neighboring counties with Portugal, but despite it, you can travel around the city with the best mode of transportation that are accessible and economical.


Throughout the country, the transport system is well-maintained and diversified. The road infrastructure is spread over 3,000 Km which contains 44 motorways that are really big one. The highways are a critical link for industrial activity in the north side of the country and experiencing the high volume of traffic. The government authorities are working vigorously to bring the infrastructure and transportation at the state-of-the-art.
Portugal has three major international airports, situated at Lisbon, Faro and Porto.  Amidst them, Lisbon Portela Airport is the major international airport of Portugal. The airport is the main gateway of the country to whole Europe. It is the largest airport in Portugal with all latest and modern amenities such as aviation, air traffic control, and maintenance. The airport can handle more than 18 million passengers and 88,459 tons of cargo as per facts.


 The railway system of Portugal is also well-developed and provided by Comboios de Portugal. The capital city is served by the fabulous Underground with its artistic stations where art and culture of the country have eminent imprints. The city also operates tram services for over a century. In Porto, tram service is also available with three major lines along with other which have well-equipped train system.
The major seaport of Portugal is located in major cities of the country, providing travelling services in an excellent manner. Lisbon has five ferry terminals which are operated by well-reputed ferry companies. These ferries crossed River Tajo which is near to the city center and take 15 minutes to cross the river. Daily commuters used ferry service extensively to reach the city center as it is working as an efficient mode of transport.


Taxi service is also used largely in Portugal after public transport which is also cheap but not comfortable as taxis. Tourist always prefers a taxi to travel around the country to enjoy the wonders of this beautiful piece of land. Taxis are easily available at the airport and many important places.
